The Drama and Music Club from Scholastica has staged the 1965 musical masterpiece, The Sound of Music
, during the institution’s 40th anniversary.
The performance was held in Dhaka's National Museum auditorium on October 27.
The programme was inaugurated by Prime Minister’s Political Advisor HT Imam, while theatre and television actor, director, business entrepreneur and social activist Sara Zaker was invited as a special guest at the occasion.
Principal Brig Gen (Retd) Kaiser Ahmed welcomed the houseful audience with his eloquent speech.
Under the direction of Kazi Toufiqul Islam Imon, the youthful stars of the school performed a rendition of The Sound of Music
, a musical which was penned by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse.
Based on the memoir of Maria von Trapp, the musical tells the story of Maria, who takes a job as governess to a large family, while she contemplates about becoming a nun. She eventually falls in love with the children and their widowed father, Captain von Trapp. He is later ordered to accept a commission in the German navy, but he opposes the Nazis. He and Maria then decide on a plan to flee Austria with the children.
The troupe, consisting of students from class five to seven, including Samah Subah, Ishrak Zuhayr, Monalisa Munia, Ariyah Amber Amin and Anika Anwar Ahmed, donned their roles as the members of the Von Trapp family, who eventually managed to leave the audience astonished with their brilliant acting.
Students from class eight to ten, including, Nayeer Ahmed, Nabiha Taiaba Rasid, Syed Masrur Tehzib, Ariha Shahed, Rainaf Zaman, Nuzhat Tasnim, Sadab Ekram, among others have voiced "Edelweiss," "My Favourite Things," "Climb Ev'ry Mountain," "Do-Re-Mi," and the title song "The Sound of Music" during the musical.
