It has been a while since Bollywood has had a taste of super opening from any film. Multi-starred films with Khans sank low at the box office.
Director Rohit Shetty was also starving for a box office hit after the disaster of “Dilwale” in 2015. However, he was relieved after Ajay Devgan starrer “Golmaal Again” had a good opening at the box office, after a long time in India.
Although Aamir Khan's “Secret Superstar” was released during the same week, it must be mentioned that the “Superstar” features Aamir Khan in an extended cameo. “Dangal” star Zaira Wasim is the lead of the film.
Parineeti Chopra, the new addition to the Golmaal franchise, has been a breath of fresh air.
After the meteoric rise and dominance of “Baahubali 2” at the Indian and global box office, no Bollywood film has been able to quite reach close this year.
Moreover, the industry has also witnessed a series of disappointing Fridays, with big releases failing to impress the audience, while they leave the theatres with a whimper. Hence, the fourth instalment of the franchise has given Bollywood a very good reason to celebrate, since it has become the highest box office opening film of the year.
Directed by Rohit Shetty, “Golmaal Again” brings back the original gang of Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Kunal Khemu and Shreyas Talpade, along with Tabu and Parineeti.
As trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, the film minted Rs 30.14 crore on its opening Friday, followed by Rs 28.37 crore on Saturday and Rs 29.09 crore on Sunday. On top of that, it collected Rs 20.62 crore from the international market.
Rohit Shetty and Ajay Devgn have proven to be a force to reckon with. The duo's “Singham Returns” had also registered the same amount on its opening day like “Golmaal Again.”
