‘Bangladesh Film Festival-2017’ ends successfully
The 16-day “Bangladesh Film Festival-2017” has successfully come to an end for this year. The event ended on Saturday, with award-giving ceremony and screening of the best films at this year’s festival. Celebrating the theme of “Film for all, art and culture for all,” this year’s programme was organised for the second time in collaboration with the district shilpakala academies. Among 11 contemporary films, three films were awarded in three categories. Tauquir Ahmed's Oggatonama (2016) won the Best Film Award along with prize money worth Tk2 lakh. The director also bagged the Best Film Director Award and won a prize of Tk 1 lakh. Rubaiyat Hossain's Under Construction (2015), which featured actors like Shahana Goswami and Rahul Bose, won the Special Jury Award, receiving prize money worth Tk 50,000. Actor Rikita Nandini Shimu, who also starred in the film, received the award on behalf of the whole team. This year’s festival received 44 films, in five different categories from 64 districts across Bangladesh. Five jury members selected the films for the festival based on five categories: Classics, Internationally-acclaimed films, films on Liberation War, Contemporary local films, and films by women filmmakers, released between 2015 and 2016. The festival screened films like Tareq Masud's Matir Moyna, Tanvir Mokammel's Chitra Nadir Parey, Sheikh Niyamat Ali and Masiuddin Shaker's Surja Dighal Bari, Nurul Alam Atik's Duub Satar, Alamgir Kabir's Surja Kannya, Badal Rahman's Emiler Goenda Bahini, and Morshedul Islam's Chaka. Foreign text-book films like Satyajit Ray's Pather Pachali, Mrinal Sen's Akaler Sandhane, Ritwik Ghatak's Meghe Dhaka Tara, Mikhail Klatozov's Cranes are Flying, Vittorio De Sica's Bicycle Thieves and Akira Kurosawa's Rashomon were also screened during the festival. Director General of Shilpakala Academy Likata Ali Lucky, Filmmaker and Chairman of the Jury Committee Masiuddin Shaker, and Filmmaker Mostofa Sarwar Farooki among others were present at the closing ceremony. The ceremony was held at Shilpakala Academy’s Chitrashala Auditorium.
