The year 2017 may not have been friendly when it comes to our long lists of resolutions, but it definitely proves to be a delight for all the movie lovers across the country. Many films have brought hope for the Dhallywood industry and my fellow movie enthusiasts. ‘Dhaka Attack’, ‘Doob’, ‘Khash Jomin’, ‘Gohin Baluchor’, ‘Dulabhai Jindabaad’, all these movies are coming to cinemas this month, that is October, just in time for the changes in the season itself! It is really a rare event for Bengali cinema history to have so many films released in a span of one year, let alone the fact that all this will be out in one month, considering there are no big festivals to go along with the releases of these movies. This promising fact calls out for viewers to go back to cinema halls and theatre and enjoy movies in its most original form, on literally the BIG screen. Not only is the experience exhilarating, we would also be helping the swaying numbers of cinema-goers and help our theatres flourish.
One of the most discussed cinemas of this month is definitely Mostofa Sarwar Farooki’s ‘Doob’. This Bangladesh-India co production film entered a multitude of conversations because of the famous Bollywood actor, Irrfan Khan, who is starring in the leading role. He plays the legendary magician of Bengali literature, Humayun Ahmed, although it has not been confirmed by the director or Humayun Ahmed’s family members that this is a biopic of the writer himself. However, fans and critics are having their fair share of suspicion even without any announcements about this film being based on Humayun’s life, owing to the remarkable resemblance. Along with Irrfan Khan Nusrat Imrose Tisha, Rokeya Prachy and Parno Mittra will be seen in the movie. This film will hit theaters on 27th of this month.
With no end to the genres of movies hitting theatres this month we also have the action packed family movie, with a catchy name too-Dulabhai Zindabad. The movie stars the time-old favourites such as Mousumi who still gets our hearts racing; Dipjol, who to date, manages to rile up our sense of justice; and other relatively new faces such as Bidya Sinha Saha Mim and Bappy Chowdhury. Written by Abdullah Zahir Babu and directed by Montazur Rahman Akbar, the movies has faced some backlash in that they have been accused of having catered to a particular niche of cinema-goers and as such the movie is not entirely exclusive. In response to these, Nandita Cinema Hall has said that the movie is meant for the friday crowd who are regulars and indeed the storyline is in step with the demand that they have observed over time.
For thriller lovers ‘Dhaka Attack’ brings the action packed story of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Elite Forces’ fierce operation against foreign intelligence agency’s effort to destabilize the country. This film partially plots the Bangladesh Army’s joint force operation in Bandarban against Burmese insurgents. Arifin Shuvoo, Afzal Hossain, ABM Sumon, and Shatabdi Wadud will be seen in different task force officer’s role , while Mahiya Mahi was cast as crime journalist. This Dipankar Dipon directed movie already hit theaters and receiving rave reviews so far.
This 20th October, director Sarwar Hossain brings a story of landless people- Khaash Jomin to the cinema halls. The director claims this to be a movie of social realities. Simon Sadiq and Bipasha Kabir are the lead actors in this films.
Badrul Anam Saud comes up with his debut film Gohin Baluchor also set to release on the 20th October. Suborna Mustafa being the producer of this film, many are expecting this film to be a good one. However, Saud is sceptical to his debut as he said “I am really feelings nervous during this moment in my life. Since 2000, Animesh Aich, Amlan Biswas, Golam Sohrab Dodul, Shihab Shahin and myself, started working in media. From that time to today we are together. So the making of this movie is the beginning of a new journey for all of us. Everybody pray for us as I can successfully finish the works of the movie.” This movie will be released all over the country on 20th this month.
Having the opportunity to celebrate the autumnal mood swings of our tropical country is a rare one. Some of our filmmakers have thrived and spent not only sleepless nights but also days to bring us these remarkable movies which not only have the potential to make a groundbreaking progress and appearance in the international front of the movie industry, but have made sure that the stories and plots trigger at the memories of our losses and realities, and leave us with larger impacts in our lives and consciences.
