Famous Indian model and actor Sheena Chohan is back to her “favourite country”, Bangladesh and this time the Piprabidya actress is here to host the Bangladesh instalment of international beauty pageant, Miss World Bangladesh. Sheena already joined the show and has hosted the Corporate Round, held in Banani’s Elite Club on Friday. The Miss Kolkata will also be seen hosting the Gala Performance and Grand Finale round of the show.
“Bangladesh is my country. This is the first time Lovelo Miss World Bangladesh is being organised here. I am truly excited to have the opportunity to host such an arrangement. This is a matter of great pleasure to me that I’ll help find the Miss Bangladesh, who is equally unique in her beauty and talents,” said Chohan, who has become a popular face in the country with her superbly pulled off anchoring job in the first season of Bangladesh Premiere League (BPL).
However, a total of 16 participants are taking part in the Corporate Round of the pageant. Among them, 10 will get the chance to compete in the Gala Performance round, to be held at Cox’s Bazar’s Royal Tulip Sea Pearl Beach Resort, from September 17 to 19. Nayanika Chatterjee, one of the trainers of Femina Miss India, has already joined the team to train the 10 selected participants. She will be staying in Bangladesh till September 26. Jointly brought by Antar Showbiz and Omikon Entertainment in Bangladesh, the Grand Finale of the national version of the oldest running international beauty pageant will be held on September 29 at Dhaka’s Bashundhara Convention Centre. The winner of the round will represent Bangladesh in the 67th Miss World, which is going to be held at China on November 18.
Sheena Chohan was crowned Miss Kolkata while still in high school before being hand-picked by Sushmita Sen to participate in Miss Universe where she won the only title to be voted for by millions of viewers – I Am Voice for her connectivity with the audience.
An actress since childhood, Sheena acted professionally in almost 30 theatre plays with eminent directors including Arvind Gaur, until she won the lead female role in South Indian film The Train directed by India’s National Award winning director Jayaraj opposite the south superstar Mammootty. Next Sheena shot two films with National Film Award Winner Buddhadeb Dasgupta named Mukti and Patralekha based on Rabindranath Tagore’s poems. She was then selected to be the face of the 1st and 2nd seasons of BPL – Bangladesh Premier League, where she became known as the BPL girl to millions of fans. Sheena was also chosen to host IFFI 2014 where she opened and closed the proceedings in front of superstars Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachachan, as well as millions of viewers watching at home.
Her first film venture in Bangladesh was Mostofa Sarwar Farooki’s Piprabidya (Ant Story), which had a world première at the Dubai Film Festival and was selected for the Shanghai Film Festival, where Sheena was nominated as the Best Actress, in competition with superstars like Kiera Knightley and Kate Beckinsale.
