After courting Mel Gibson and Jaume Collet-Serra to direct the summer DC/WB sequel, Warner Bros. finally tapped Gavin O’Connor, who directed Ben Affleck in the hit action-thriller The Accountant, to write and helm Suicide Squad 2.
It took months for Warner Bros. to find the perfect hand to direct the sequel to its all-star movie.
Before taking the job of directing Jungle Cruise for Disney, the shark thriller famed director Jaume Collet-Serra and Mel Gibson, were two hot choices for the helm.
Suicide Squad, directed by David Ayer, followed villains Deadshot, Harley Quinn, the Joker, Captain Boomerang and Killer Croc, who are forced into the service of the government in exchange for lighter sentences. According to sources, Ayer is now developing Gotham City Sirens with Harley Quinn actress Margot Robbie, which focuses on the female villains of the DC Universe.
Although, work on the Suicide Squad follow-up is in full swing, the date of the shoot is yet to be decided. Most of the members of the cast, who are expected to return for the sequel, are really busywith their other ventures. Will Smith, for instance, is currently filming Aladdin, which will be followed by Ang Lee’s Gemini Man, while Robbie is busy filming Mary Queen of Scots.
