The first look at Rami Malek playing Freddie Mercury came out on Tuesday. And the fans can see the resemblance of the Mr Robot star with the flamboyant lead singer of the 1970’s rock legend group Queen.
Talking about donning the iconic role, Rami Malek told People, “When you’re able to open your eyes and see a different person staring back at you in the mirror, it’s a very affirming moment.”
The Queen biopic titled Bohemian Rhapsody, directed by X-Men famed Bryan Singer, follows Freddie Mercury after he teamed with Brian May and Roger Taylor in 1970 up until the band’s performance at Live Aid in 1985.
The first look picture shows Malek imitating Mercury’s style from the world-wide charity concert.
The 36-year-old actor said that his resemblance to the Queen singer “only adds to the level of confidence that one would need to play Freddie Mercury.”
In the film, a combination of Mercury’s and Malek’s voice will be used in regards to the legendary voice which “sounds alike filling in the gaps.”
“We’re going to use Freddie as much as possible and use myself as much as possible,” Malek added.
