Legal notice served to remove Kushum Shikder’s steamy comeback
Popular actress Kushum Shikder’s much talked about comeback venture, Nesha, a music video featuring a steamy Kushum, has been receiving mixed reactions. Some praised her bold appearance in the video, while many were seen criticising the video, tagging it as ‘culturally inappropriate’. The disputes surrounding the video reached a new height when a Supreme Court lawyer named Aftab Uddin Siddique Ragib served a legal notice to remove the video from all social media outlets within  72 hours on August 13. In the notice, the lawyer accuses the video of featuring sexually provocative lyrics and scenes.   [arve url="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8j-A7kKFQjs" /] “The video repeatedly projects offensive and sexually stimulating obscene scenes. It has five bath scenes, seven swimming pool scenes, one bed scene and three kissing scenes. The scenes have no connection whatsoever with it’s lyrical content. These scenes have been added just to get rapid and cheap popularity,” reads the notice. “Even the cover of the video is extremely obscene and offensive. According to article 8 of the Pornography act 2012 and article 57 of ICT act, making these kinds of explicit videos is a punishable crime,” it further says. Copies of the notice have been sent to the BTRC chairman, secretary of information and communication division, secretary of cultural ministry and information secretary, ordering them to take necessary steps to remove all of such explicit contents from various online platforms within one month. Otherwise, the notice threatens the responsible authorities with legal actions. Kushum Shikder, who was seen in a steamy avatar in the music video, denied to comment on the matter. But Sraboni Ferdous, the maker of the video, said that the video no longer belongs to them. It is now the property of Bongobd. “We’ve received the notice. Naturally, it is embarrassing. We are talking with our lawyer and will send an official reply within 72 hours,” said a Bongobd official. Kushum released her first solo album 18 years ago and returned with “Nesha” after a long haiatus. It was penned and sang by Kushum herself while Hridoy Khan composed and tuned it. Khaled Hossain Shujon worked as a co-model under the direction of Shubhro Khan and Sraboni. Kushum Sikder made her debut through film Gohine Shobdo in 2010, but started her career in the industry in 2002.
