TV drama chronicles Bangabandhu’s assassination
August 15 of 1975 is remembered as a black day in the history of Bangladesh. This was the day when the assassination of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman took place – killing the president of Bangladesh, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and almost his entire family. The assassination was led by a group of Bangladesh Army personnel who went to his residence and killed him, during a coup d’etat. Based on the heinous events of the day, Sahid Rahman, a dramatist and lyricist wrote a story, titled Mohamanober Desh. With Mannan Hira’s direction, the story is now being transformed into a TV drama. Titled Itihasher Krishnopokkho, shoot for the drama has already been completed. Two of the most esteemed actors of the local TV industry, Tariq Anam Khan and Fazlur Rahman Babu have donned different roles in the drama, while National Film Award winner actor Sharmimala portrayed the female lead character. Moreover, Momena Chowdhury, who has earned a reputation for her outstanding acting on the stage, will also be seen in the drama. “Every Bengali is grateful to Bangabandhu. We can never pay his debts. However, I’ve just tried to show how his ideology and acts inspired his countrymen to be patriotic. This is my humble way of paying tribute to the demised leader,” said Sahid Rahman, who penned the story. Actor Tariq Anam Khan said, “Acting in a Liberation War based story is not just acting, I take it as my responsibility. I took part in the Liberation War and the drama has taken me back to the turbulent times of the war.” “I haven’t seen the Liberation War. So, I had to study a lot about the time to act in my role. A freedom fighter left his wife to listen to Bangabandhu’s speech. After the country got liberated, he left for the city just to see Bangabandhu with his own eyes. The story is an emotional one and I’ve tried my best to do my part properly. I hope the story will add a new dimension to our perception about Bangabandhu and his popularity,” said actor Sharmimala. On the occasion of the 42nd death anniversary of Bangabandhu, Itihasher Krishnopokkho will be aired on Channel i.
