On Tuesday, Warner Bros. officially announced that Wonder Woman will be back on the big screen in time for the 2019 holiday season.
Wonder Woman 2 is slated to hit theaters on December 13, 2019, a date the studio recently released for an undisclosed “WB event film.” The studio also confirmed that the sequel will also be screened in IMAX.
The first one, directed by Patty Jenkins starring Gal Gadot in the titular role, opened to favourable reviews in June and has bagged more than $389 million only in the US, making it the highest-grossing film of the summer. Wonder Woman is holding better than any superhero film in more than 15 years at the North American box office.
Patty Jenkins may return as the director since talks with her are ongoing, but she has not officially been announced as being on board with the project. Gadot will next appear as Princess Diana in November’s Justice League, alongside Ben Affleck’s Batman, Jason Momoa’s Aquaman, Ezra Miller’s Flash and Ray Fisher’s Cyborg in the DC superhero dream team.
