Veteran film and television actor Nazmul Huda Bachchu has passed away around 4am on Wednesday at Dhaka’s Square Hospital.
According to his wife Lina, the 78-year-old actor was suffering from fever two days before Eid after returning from a shoot and was undergoing treatment at the hospital.
“Heart problems were detected following tests on Tuesday. He died before we could even understand what was happening to him,” she added.
Born on July 11, 1938 in Dhaka, Bachchu came into the limelight during the ‘70s and ‘80s with films as Surja Dighal Bari, Sareng Bou, Behula Lokhindore and went onto attain critical acclaims for his work inRunwayandChitra Nodir Pare.
Throughout his long career, he mentored a number of prominent celebrities including the likes of Bulbul Ahmed and Ujjal. Apartfrom his frequent appearance in numerous television dramas, Bachchu became a common figure in skits with his brilliant acting in the popular magazine show Ittadi.
In order to celebrate his contribution to the local entertainment industry, the actor has been conferred various prestigious awards including the National Film Award.
Funeral prayers for the actor was held on Wednesday at Gulshan’s Azad Mosque after Zuhr. Bachchu has been buried next to his father at the Banani graveyard after the prayers.
