Kolkata based Tele-Cine Society (TCS) organised the programme to honour artistes from the two Bengals (India’s West Bengal state and Bangladesh) at a ceremony at the Nazrul Mancha on June 4, 2017. At the programme, Aynabaji, directed by Amitabh Reza, received the Best Film Award. Chanchal Chowdhury, who played the role of Ayna in the film, received an award for his extraordinary performance.
Legendary actor Nayak Raj Razzak was honoured with the lifetime achievement award.
Ayub Bachchu was also honoured for his outstanding contribution to rock music in Bangladesh, while Shakib Khan received the Best Hero Award for his outstanding performance in the film Shikari.
Other awardees from Bangladesh are actress Nusrat Faria, singers Habib Wahed and Kona.
Organisers said they had wanted to connect the two Bengals into one culture. With this in mind, they added the Bangladesh awards section to this event two years ago.
After getting the award, Aynabaji director Amitabh Reza Chowdhury expressed his excitement on social media. “#aynabaji got best film and best actor Chanchal Chowdhury in Telecine award on kolkata,”- he wrote with a picture of the awards. Chanchal Chowdhury said that the award is for all who love Aynabaji.
