Celebrated director Mostofa Sarwar Farooki’s film Doob: No Bed of Roses has been selected for the main competition section of the 39th
Moscow International Film Festival, one of the oldest and prestigious film festivals in the world.
The news was announced at the first official press conference of the festival held on June 1 at the StandArt Hotel in Moscow. The press conference was conducted by the festival’s artistic director Kirill Razlogov and other top officials.
Farooki’s latest venture, which is yet to be released in Bangladesh, has earned it’s place among the first 11 films, including Crested Ibis by director Liang Qiao (China) Darkland by director Fenar Ahmad (Denmark), Selfie by Víctor García León (Spain), Symphony for Ana by directors Ernesto Ardito, Virna Molina (Argentina), Star Boys by director Visa Koiso-Kanttila (Finland), Summer Blooms by director Ryutaro Nakagawa (Japan), Ordinary person by director Kim Bong-han (Republic of Korea), The Best Of All Worlds by director Adrian Goiginger, (Germany/Austria), Frozen Carp by director Vladimir Kott (Russia), Buy me by director Vadim Perelman (Russia). The 11 films will be vying for the coveted Golden George award. Several other awards will also be given out by an international jury in categories like the best film, best director, jury prize, best actor, and best actress.
Irrfan Khan, the lead actor of the film along with actress Nusrat Imrose Tisha, director Farooki, and the producers will join the red carpet event and awards night on June 29, stated an official press release from the Chabial team.
Apart from Irrfan Khan and Nusrat Imroz Tisha, Doob also features the likes of Parno Mitra from Kolkata and Rokeya Prachi from Dhaka.
