Tanvir Mokammel, Sohanur Rahman Sohan and others to receive national filmmaking grant

A total of six feature film projects, which will be directed by country’s prominent filmmakers such as Tanvir Mokammel and Sohanur Rahman Sohan, have been selected for the National Filmmaking Grant for the 2016-17 session. Other filmmakers whose works also have been selected include Ferdous Alam Siddiqui, Rezwan Shahriar Sumit, Shabnam Ferdousi and Kamal Sarkar. On May 29, Ministry of Information announced the decision through a circular on its website. Tanvir Mokammel’s next film Rupsi Nadir Bakey will get government funding. The story for the film is penned by the filmamker, who will also be producing it. Sohanur Rahman Sohan’s children film project Priyo Janmobhumi is selected for the grant which is written by Chhaktu Ahmed and produced by the director. Documentary filmmaker Shabnam Ferdousi’s debut feature Ajob Sundor, also selected for receiving the government grant, is produced by Samia Zaman. Ferdous Alam Siddique awarded the grant for a documentary feature titled Ekjon Mariom. Rezwan Shahriar Sumit, a New York based filmmaker who was born and raised in Bangladesh, got the grant for a feature film titled Nona Joler Kabya , written and produced by the director himself. Produced by Jasim Uddin Kamal Sarkar’s feature film Daay Mukti was also in the list and will be receiving the grant. Every film project to receive from 30 to 50 lacs of financial assistance to complete the film. In the circular, it was mentioned that the films were selected judging from the perspective of spirit of the Liberation War and independence, and the film’s humanistic, realistic and aesthetic values.
