Popular Indian actor, Priyanka Chopra’s Hollywood debut Baywatch is being mercilessly slammed with negative reviews from critics. The film reboot of the popular 90’s TV show of the same name, was released in Miami on May 13, and it is being thrashed for its immature content and bad acting since then.
With 42 reviews in, Baywatch currently has a 19% “rotten” rating on Rotten Tomatoes’ tomatometer, making it one of the least rated film at the US box office right now.
“It all feels woefully juvenile, and many of the jokes strain harder than Hasselhoff sucking in his gut back in Season 9,” said Reed Tucker of New York Post. “The script spends much of its time developing the banter-driven relationship between the male leads, leaving the unfortunate female members of Team Baywatch little to differentiate themselves from one another beyond their cup size and hair colour,” Tucker added.
The Guardian’s Steve Rose found that Priyanka Chopra was used only to show off her skin. “Even Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra, the underused villain of the piece, looks like she was contractually obliged to show as much flesh as permissible,” he said on her role in the film.
However, the 2017 American action-comedy film is directed by Seth Gordon and stars the likes of Dwayne Johnson, Zac Efron, Alexandra Daddario, Priyanka Chpora, Kelly Rohrbach, Jon Bass, and Ilfenesh Hadera. Priyanka plays the role of the villain Victoria Leeds in the film.
Baywatch is slated to hit Indian theatres on June 2.
