Misha Sawdagar and Zayed Khan have won the biennial election of Cholochitro Shilpo Samiti, the organisation of local film artistes.
Among the three panels, the Misha Sawdagar – Zayed Khan panel has made it to the throne with some 259 and 279 votes respectively, beating their closest opponents Omar Sani – Amit Hasan panel, who received a number of 153 and 145 votes in the polls respectively.
Director Montazur Rahman Akbar, who acted as the election commissioner, has announced actor Misha Sawdagar the new president, while Zayed Khan was elected as the secretary of the association, for the next two years. Nadir Khan and Riaz have been elected as vice-presidents.
A number of 57 candidates vied for 21 posts, including that of president and general secretary, from three panels: Omar Sunny – Amit Hasan, Misha Sawdagar – Zayed Khan and Danny Sidak – Elias Kobra, in the polls. There were also some independent contestants, who took part in the election.
558 voters out of a total of 624 took part in the election, which was held on Friday at the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) in Dhaka. The last election of the artistes’ association was held on January 30, 2015, when Shakib Khan was elected president and Amit Hasan became the general secretary.
