Koto Madhusamire, a collection of Tagore songs sung by Farhin Khan Joyita, was launched on Tuesday, May 2, at the Chhayanaut Auditorium in Dhaka. Eminent Tagore exponent and teacher, Dr Sanjida Khatun inaugurated the launching in the presence of Mita Haque, where the singer performed some of the numbers from her album.
Produced by Bengal Foundation, the album comprises of some extraordinary Tagore numbers including “Morey Barey Barey Pherale,” “Charandhwani Shuni Tobo,” “Prochondo Gorjone,” and “Sukhheen Nishidin Poradhin.”
Luva Nahid Chowdhury, the director general of Bengal Foundation, coordinated the event. Musicians who performed alongside the singer in the event include Enamul Haq Omar on Tabla, Rooptanu on Keyboard, Asit Biswas on Esraj, and Pradip Roy on Mondira.
Daughter of renowned musician Mita Haque and actor-director Khaled Khan, Joyita grew up with the creative influence of her parents, and went on to combine that with her own musical talent, to create a new album. The product of almost two years of hard work and innovation, the album contains eight songs, which were arranged by Partho Pal and recorded in Kolkata.
Theatre activist and actor, Aly Zaker has lauded Joyita’s effort in a statement, saying “She secured her place in the world of Taroge praxis in the country by her own talent. I have listened to her songs, and while listening to these songs, which are recorded in notable intense music, I got lost in the harmonious world of music.”
“The diversity of Tagore songs is not always apparent in the songs of many ordinary singers in our country. However, Joyita has successfully established herself as one of those who are capable of demonstrating that diversity with her skilled singing style,” Zaker added.
“When someone will listen to these songs, he or she will be able to understand the diversity of Tagore songs, and understand the depth of Tagore’s musical sphere,” said Zaker.
