Kalikaprasad dies in a car accident

Acclaimed folk singer and renowned Bengali Folk Band - Dohar’s frontman, Kalikaprasad was killed in a car accident on Tuesday. According to the police, the singer was returning to Kolkata with five other members of Dohar, and the car fell into a ditch at Gurap in the Hoogly district, which resulted in Bhattacharjee’s death and left five others critically wounded. Burdwan Medical College declared the singer dead on arrival. Kalikaprasad Bhattacharjee, who was in his mid 40’s, was acclaimed for his work on Jaatishwar (2014), Moner Manush (2010), and the most recent Bhuban Majhi (2017). Chief minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee expressed shock and grief about the mishap. “Shocked at the tragic demise of Kalikaprasad Bhattacharjee of Dohar. His passing is a big loss to Bengali music,” she tweeted after learning about the accident. In another tweet, Banerjee wrote, “Kalikaprasad’s demise is a personal loss. He was a close friend. Condolences to his family and fans.” The singer and composer came to Bangladesh a few days ago, and joined the premiere of Fakhrul Arefeen Khan’s Bhubon Majhi, where Bhattacharjee worked as a music composer. The director of the film has now dedicated the movie to the deceased musician. In a Facebook status Khan wrote, “Today I have given Bhubon Majhi to you Kalika Bhai.”
