Trump announced his candidacy for president more than 500 days ago, despite having no political experience. Vowing to “Make America Great Again,” the business mogul appealed to those who believed America needs to be fixed. He had a large number of Republican opponents, but picked up enough momentum to win most of the primaries.
Trump officially won the GOP nomination this past July, and turned his attention to defeating Democratic rival Hillary Clinton. The Celebrity Apprentice host alienated many in Hollywood with his divisive rhetoric, and was frequently accused of being racist and sexist. But much to the surprise of many famous Clinton supporters, Trump has now pulled out an unexpected victory to become the next Commander-in-Chief of the United States.
Various celebrities took to Twitter to express themselves. Some of them include:
Iconic diva Madonna said, ''A New Fire Is Lit .We Never Give Up. We Never Give In''.
Carl Reiner: “Donald Trump has given me, who is 94, the deep desire & will to live to 98 so I can vote for whoever runs against him.”
Rashida Jones: “I want to quit life.”
Tyler Oakley: “if you wish you had done more to stop trump, remember how tonight feels. brand it into your memory, & during the next election, get to work.
Melanie Lynskey: “It makes me weep every time I imagine Hillary Clinton, with all her experience, all the work she has done, having to make that call to Trump.”
Chris Evans: “This is an embarrassing night for America. We’ve let a hate monger lead our great nation. We’ve let a bully set our course. I’m devastated.”
Katy Perry: “WE WILL NEVER BE SILENCED. #LOVETRUMPSHATE.”
Sharing a list of stars who vowed to move to Canada if Trump was elected, Rob Lowe cracked, “The Canadian entertainment industry just got some ringers.”
Octavia Spencer: “Gonna miss Obama. maybe this country needs a Trump presidency to see just how good we had it and took it for granted!!!!! #GodBlessTheUSA.”
Trevor Noah: “I know Americans don’t use this phrase but this is totally squeaky bum time.
James Van Der Beek: “Choosing to believe Trump voters were sick of the establishment (a feeling we all share to some degree) and valued change above all else.”
Judd Apatow: “So the host of The Apprentice who loves Putin and p*ssy grabbing controls house-senate and the Supreme Court. What could go wrong?”
Kate Walsh: “This is a national disaster. An illiterate, bigoted, misogynistic, racist, rapist has become president. I have no words.”
Christina Applegate: “I went to sleep early. Woke up to this. To my fellow humans outside of the US. We don’t want this. And we are heartbroken.”
Of course, some famous Trump fans were also celebrating. “CONGRATULATIONS PRESIDENT TRUMP! @realDonaldTrump against all odds ..against the establishment and even against most from the GOP,” tweeted Kirstie Alley.
