Although hartals are an awful form of political protest, as an optimist, I would like to point out that they do have some positive effects. As I have to go to work regardless of whether or not there is a hartal, I have found that my commute is significantly more tolerable on hartal days. As long as I am careful and avoid certain parts of the city, the hartal doesn’t really affect me at all.
