Towards a sustainable Bangladesh

Update : 08 Dec 2021, 09:03 PM

It is encouraging to see that the government is going to award 30 institutions the “Green Factory Award," which should encourage the local industry to compete in a sustainable way in the global arena.

Bangladesh has been vocal about both climate change and sustainable development for a while now. It is good to see the government not only talking on the matter, but taking initiatives as well.

The next logical step to be taken is to continue to pivot our business climate to accommodate more and more sustainable businesses. Bangladesh has been taking progressive initiatives for a while now, but it is time to do more. Local innovators have already shown that we have the ideas and resources to compete in the global market with sustainable products, and the only things these innovators are lacking are capital, scale, and the right incentives for encouragement.

The authorities must step up, and ensure these sustainable practices and businesses can reach their full potential, and heighten Bangladesh’s name in the global sphere.

Bangladesh, inevitably, has to tackle plenty of issues in this decade and the decades going forward. To that end, nothing is as advantageous as sustainable development. We must make sure that we assess the needs of the whole country in an equitable way, and sustainably develop the whole country to reach our coveted goal of becoming a developed nation. The government has said much when it comes to sustainable development, and the eyes of the world are upon us. Let’s make sure we can set an ideal example.
