Bangladesh is moving ahead. It is high time that our airport moves along with it
The beginning of the construction of a third terminal at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport is welcome news, with the new terminal aiming to handle an additional 12 million passengers every year.
An efficiently functioning airport is essential to a nation striving for middle income status, and can pave the way for its citizens having the best of experiences when they are traveling, be it abroad or locally.
It also serves as the primary point of contact for visitors to the country, and it is crucial that the first impression created is indicative of the potential that our country boasts.
Now it is time for the authorities to ensure that the project is completed with efficiency in mind, and that it is done well, so as to provide the best of services to the citizens of this country.
In many ways, our airport in its current state lacks the organization and efficiency worthy of the nation we have become, a country that is one of the fastest growing economies in the world.
By having the potential to handle more passengers -- and doing so well -- will lead to more trade and more investment, and a better overall experience will ensure that investors and visitors keep coming back.
Other airports in the region have far surpassed the services and amenities provided by Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in its current state and we hope that the authorities ensure its completion with this in mind.
Bangladesh is moving ahead. It is high time that our airport, a primary source of crucial communication, moves along with it.
