The Tigers can use this win to catapult themselves into doing what they do best
Congratulations to the Tigers for beating India by seven wickets in the first of three T20Is at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in the Indian capital on Sunday -- marking the first time that Bangladesh beat India in the shortest format of the game.
What was even more impressive about this victory was the fact that the Bangladesh cricket team were without two of their biggest stars -- Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal -- and their performance was a testament to the grit and fight that we now expect of our national cricket team.
It goes without saying that the last couple of weeks have been difficult for Bangladeshi cricket, and it would have been justified for the morale in the players’ dressing room to be low.
In particular, the Tigers had every reason to doubt themselves because, in this difficult situation and without two of their stalwarts, they had to face the Indian cricket team on their home turf -- arguably the most daunting task in cricket today.
However, to show the calm and composure that the team did, with their backs against the wall, a lesser-than-ideal dressing room morale, and our history of heartbreaking losses against India looming over us, shows how far the team has come, and how far it can go with the right support.
To that end, we hope that the Tigers can use this win to leave behind the recent difficulties and catapult themselves into doing what they do best -- playing cricket in the right spirit and besting the odds placed before them.
