Our peacekeeping forces are truly an inspiration

Bangladeshi peacekeepers have done great work at dangerous locations around the world in recent years, and have made the country proud.

Not only is Bangladesh the second highest contributor of peacekeepers in the world, we are now the fifth highest contributor of female peacekeepers among all troop-and-police contributing countries, showing that our forces are leading the way in shattering gender stereotypes the world over.

A great responsibility now rests on the shoulders of our peacekeepers, and with that comes the need for comprehensive training.

To that end, it is good to see that the government has called for strong collaboration among the UN secretariat, member states, and other police-contributing countries to work towards a better-trained peacekeeping force.

As we celebrate the many accomplishments of our brave men and women abroad, it is encouraging to know that, when it comes the service we provide, there will be no compromise, and we will strive to continuously improve ourselves to the best of our ability.

Our peace-keeping forces are truly an inspiration, and this is further emphasized by how they have showcased strong moral values, effective motivation, and a high standard of discipline regardless of where they have gone.

But there are, of course, improvements that can be made and it is encouraging to know that we have the self-awareness to recognize this as a continuously evolving process, where we continue to set the bar for how peace-keepers should behave and what duties they must fulfil.

If we continue to train them right, Bangladeshi peacekeepers will continue to enhance our country’s reputation in foreign lands.
