Congratulations to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for being included in the list of the top 100 global thinkers, and the list of the top 10 global thinkers in the defense and security category, in Foreign Policy magazine.

Her inclusion in this prestigious list is attributable to numerous achievements, chiefly among which is her exemplary response to the Rohingya crisis -- Bangladesh has given shelter to, fed, and taken care of the massive Rohingya populated that has fled to our side of the border following ethnic cleansing operations by the Myanmar army in the Rakhine state.

While a definitive solution to the Rohingya crisis does not seem to be in sight -- with Myanmar dragging its feet on guaranteeing safe repatriation, and Bangladesh’s resources being stretched thin -- what Bangladesh has done under the direction of PM Hasina will stand as an example to the world of the right thing to do, despite the costs.

It is good to see, then, that top notch publications around the world are taking recognizing the stellar example of statesmanship that the prime minister has set, and how she continues to make difficult decisions every day.

Bangladesh, in the past few years, has made great strides economically in a variety of sectors, and because of this, we are on the cusp of realizing the dream of finally shedding the LDC tag and becoming a developing country.

There is no denying that Bangladesh is becoming a major player in the world, not just in the defense and security front, but also economically, and for that, the world is taking note.
