Quality education is indispensable for peace and meaningful economic development. The long-term quality of life and wellbeing of a nation depends largely on the proper education of its population.
While primary and secondary education are universal and useful for all, universities and institutions of higher learning are incubators of future leaders, in every field, who have the noble mission of driving our country forward, and ensuring inclusion, peace and stability.
To aid in the process of providing quality university education to our youth, Dhaka Tribune and Bangla Tribune jointly published the first-ever survey of private universities in Bangladesh which came out over the weekend.
The survey should be of great help to prospective students trying to choose the right schools for themselves.
BRAC University came out first in the ranking by a large margin, followed by North South University and Independent University Bangladesh.
Rounding out the top ten were Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology, American International University Bangladesh, University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh, East West University, The University of Asia Pacific, United International University, and Daffodil International University.
According to the survey, quality of teachers was one of the most significant factors and it gave BRACU the boost it needed to come out first.
Research was also a key factor in the survey. Some of the best universities in the world are so highly regarded because of the cutting-edge research they do, and it is one of the core functions of a university.
It is important that students are able to translate what they learn into productive action; the survey found that graduates from top ranking universities were rated highly by employers in terms of their job performance, skills and abilities.
It is safe to say that the faculty contributed most to this skill premium earned by graduates upon completion of their studies. And we congratulate the faculty in the top ranking universities for their untiring efforts and their commitment to knowledge and education.
