The dynamism exhibited by the Bangladesh economy in the 70 years since Partition is nothing if not admirable.
Bangladesh has been outperforming both India and Pakistan in several economic indicators, with signs that we are only getting better as we move into the future.
Women’s average income and reduced child mortality rate stand out as the biggest success stories.
We are also rapidly reducing the rate of extreme poverty each year, and our level of income inequality is lower than that of our neighbours.
But while it is clear that we are doing better than our neighbours in many ways, we cannot stop here -- we have to aim higher, and compete with the rest of the world, if we are to become a true economic powerhouse.
