Many lives are lost to cancer every year in Bangladesh.
But what makes this fact particularly tragic is that the disease, when diagnosed at an early stage, is treatable. But in most cases, we are too late.
This is due to the fact that our medical infrastructure is entirely inadequate to deal with cancer the right way, and we need to do better.
Even the nation’s only specialised cancer hospital is plagued by inefficiency -- the MRI and CT scan machines have been out of order for years.
It is no wonder that patients feel utterly helpless when they need medical care.
The country needs better facilities and amenities, better equipment, and increased accessibility for all patients, so we can give proper attention to those battling this terrible affliction.
