This year’s on-going public health crisis has revealed embarrassing cracks in our public health administration.
The chikungunya epidemic was predicted a year ago by the WHO but the relevant national authorities failed to take necessary precautions. And now we are dealing with a measles outbreak as well.
There is no other way to put it: The crisis has been the result of a disastrous failure of coordination and communication.
The DNCC and the Health Ministry have been blaming each other, but clearly, there are too many unanswered questions about why earlier warnings were not heeded, and the public has had enough of excuses.
We demand the authorities get their act together before another different epidemic hits us.
