Say what you will about Bangladesh, but the fact that we have recorded GDP growth of 7.24% for 2016-17 speaks of how far we have come as a nation.
Nothing will hold us back.
The government deserves kudos for steering the economy in the right direction, and unleashing the entrepreneurial instincts of our people.
We have seen investment in the ICT sector, improvement of workers’ conditions, and our RMG sector reach new heights -- our achievements know no bounds.
This is on top of meeting the SDGs and MDGs with much aplomb, which has no doubt helped ease the burden of the poor and the needy, and have allowed countless disenfranchised members of our society to actively take part in the economy.
With hopes of reaching 7.4% growth in the next year, there is now no reason to believe that such a target will not be realised.
Our dreams of middle-income status lie well within our reach.
However, we must be careful that we do not let that momentum slip. With threats of terrorism a reality, we must stay vigilant. With infrastructural calamities, corruption, and traffic issues a daily burden, we must strive towards betterment.
Yes, Bangladesh has come a long way. But let us not be derailed on the path towards progress.
Let us keep on going.
