Justice Amir Hossain passes away

His namaz-e-janaza will be held at the Supreme Court (SC) premises after Zuhr prayers

Valiant freedom fighter and High Court Division of Supreme Court (SC) Justice Amir Hossain has passed away.

The 63-year-old breathed his last while undergoing treatment at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka at 7:55am on Tuesday, confirmed a Supreme Court official. 

He had been suffering from prolonged illness.

His namaz-e-janaza will be held at the Supreme Court premises after Zuhr prayers.

Justice Hossain was born on November 30 in 1957 at Nikli in the Kishoreganj district.

He was appointed as an assistant judge in the judicial department on February 22 in 1984 after completing LLB and LLM degrees from Dhaka University (DU).

Later, Hossain was promoted as a district and sessions judge on May 6 in 2009. 

He was elevated as an additional justice of the High Court Division on February 12 in 2015 while being a district judge of Gazipur.

Then, he became permanent judge on February 12, 2017.

He was also appointed as a member of the International Crimes Tribunal-1.

Justice Hossain had visited different countries in the world including, Australia, Switzerland, China, Indonesia, Singapore, South Korea, India, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Germany, Luxemburg, Belgium, France, UK, Canada, and the Netherlands.

President M Abdul Hamid has expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of Justice Amir Hossain.

In a condolence message, the president said Amir Hossain has shown honesty and efficiency while performing his duties as a judge.

He prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.

Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain in a separate condolence message also expressed deep shock and sorrow at his death.

Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq also expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Justice Hossain.

In a separate condolence message, he prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.

Law and Justice Division Secretary M Golam Sarwar also expressed deep shock and sorrow at his death.
