The 83-year-old was undergoing treatment at a Dhaka hospital
Senior journalist and former senior sub-editor of state-owned news agency Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), Abdul Qaiyum Khan Milan, has passed away. He was 83.
He breathed his last at the Impulse Hospital in Dhaka at around 3pm, while undergoing treatment, according to a press statement by National Press Club, where he was a permanent member.
Milan is survived by his wife, a son and a host of relatives and well-wishers.
Having started his career as a school teacher, Milan switched to journalism and worked at the Weekly Chittrakash, the Daily Janapad, the Dainik Barta, Telegraph and New Nation in different capacities.
Born at Srinagar in Munshiganj district, Milan was a trade unionist of journalists’ organizations and involved with left-leaning politics, reported BSS.
His namaz-e-janaza is scheduled to be held after Isha prayers at Sangbadik Colony mosque in Dhaka’s Kalshi area.
Later, he will be buried at Kalshi graveyard, the Press Club statement said.
