Journalist Fakhre Alam passes away

He was a special correspondent at the daily Kaler Kantho

Noted journalist and poet Fakhre Alam has passed away at the age of 59 in his Jessore residence on Thursday morning. He was a special correspondent at the daily Kaler Kantho.

Fakhre Alam fell severely ill at his home in the Chanchra Dalmil area of the city on Thursday morning. He was later taken to Jessore General Hospital where doctors declared him dead around 9am. He had been a long time cancer patient.

He has left behind his wife, one son, one daughter and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death.

He will be laid to rest at his family graveyard in Chanchra Dalmil after a namaz-e-janaza at Jessore District School grounds after Asr prayers on Thursday.

Born on June 20, 1961, Alam started his career as a journalist by joining a weekly magazine Saptahik Robibar (Weekly Sunday) in 1985.

Later, he worked in Ajker Kagoj, Manabjamin, Amader Somoy, Bhorer Kagoj, Daily Jaijaidin and Banglabazar Patrika.

Fakhre Alam, who was also dubbed as poet, wrote about 34 books on different topics in his lifetime. He was conferred a number of awards, including TIB and FPEB awards.

Members and officials of Jessore Press Club expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of its senior member Fakhre Alam.

In a condolence message, Jessore Press Club President Zahid Hasan Tukun and General Secretary Ahsan Kabir prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
