President and prime minister lead others in mourning her death
Jahanara Huq, freedom fighter and mother of Law Minister Anisul Huq, has died of old-age complications at a hospital in Dhaka.
The 85-year-old passed away at Evercare Hospitals Dhaka (Apollo Hospitals) around 3:40am on Saturday, reports BSS.
Jahanara had been suffering from different old-age complications, including cardiac issues, and was undergoing treatment at the hospital since October 27, 2019.
She was buried at Banani Graveyard in the afternoon the same day following a namaz-e-janaza after Zuhr prayers at Pani Unnoyon Board Jame Masjid in Banani.
President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina both, in separate statements, mourned her death, prayed for her soul’s eternal salvation, and extended condolences to the bereaved family.
Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal, Information Minister Hasan Mahmud, Planning Minister MA Mannan, Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim, State Minister for Information Md Murad Hassan and Bangladesh Judicial Service Association, among others, also expressed shock and mourned the death of the law minister’s mother.
Anisul Huq, who is also the Brahmanbaria 4 MP, had lost his wife Nur Amatullah Rina Huq in January 1991 and his father former MP Serajul Huq in October 2002.
The minister also lost his younger brother Ariful Huq Rony in March 2017 and elder sister Sayma Islam in July 2018.
Brahmanbaria district Awami League leaders and local lawmakers also issued condolence messages, mourning the death of Jahanara Huq, reports our correspondent Ujjal Chakraborty.
