Toufique joined BIDS in 1989 as a research associate
Dr Kazi Ali Toufique, research director at the Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS), has passed away.
He breathed his last in Dhaka on Tuesday, according to a press statement issued by BIDS on Wednesday.
Toufique joined BIDS in 1989 as a research associate.
In his long career as a researcher, he worked as a consultant to several organizations, including the Department for International Development (DFID), WorldFish Centre, Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
He obtained his Bachelor of Social Science and Master of Social Science degrees in economics in 1982 and 1983, respectively, from Dhaka University.
He then obtained his Master of Arts degree from Fordham University in New York, US in 1987.
Dr Toufique then obtained his MPhil degree in 1990, and his PhD in 1996 from the University of Cambridge in the UK.
His contributions and achievements in development were outstanding, and his work will continue to have an impact on the development discourse of Bangladesh, the statement said.
