Language hero Osman Gani dies

He died while undergoing treatment at BIRDEM hospital around 9:30 pm

Advocate Osman Gani, a Language Movement veteran, died at a hospital in Dhaka on Saturday night. He was 89 years old.

He died while undergoing treatment at BIRDEM hospital around 9:30 pm. Osman Gani, founding president of the Chapainawabganj Diabetic Association, had been admitted to the hospital two weeks ago due to complications of old age.

The distinguished lawyer left behind his wife, four sons, three daughters, and a host of relatives and admirers to mourn his death.

Osman Gani, then a student of Dhaka University, took part in the Language Movement of 1952 as a member of the committee convened by Language Movement veteran Abdul Matin.

His namaj-e-janaja will be held at Rehaichar Idgah in Chapainawabganj district town after the Zuhr Prayer on Sunday. Later, he will be laid to rest at the Idgah graveyard.
