Qamrul Hassan Bhuiyan, was born in Comilla in 1952
Liberation War researcher and freedom fighter Maj (retd) Qamrul Hassan Bhuiyan passed away while undergoing treatment at Dhaka’s Combined Military Hospital. He was 66 years old. He received the Bangla Academy Literary Award 2017 this year for Liberation War Literature.
Freedom fighter Major General (retd) Syed Muhammad Ibrahim, a family friend and senior colleague of the researcher, said Qamrul was suffering from various old-age complications for a very long time. He breathed his last around 1:20pm.
The chairman of Centre of Liberation War Studies, Qamrul Hassan Bhuiyan, was born in Comilla in 1952. After completing his studies, he joined the Pakistan Army and later Sector 2 during the Liberation War of 1971.
After the Liberation War, he joined the Bangladesh Army and went for early retirement as a Major in 1996. Since then he was involved in Liberation War research. He left behind his wife, sons, daughters, grandchildren and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death. He was buried at the Banani graveyard around 8pm on Monday.
