Terrorists kill 3 people in Rangamati

Activists of an armed group the Kuki Chin National Front-KNF claimed responsibility for the killings in a statement posted on its social media Facebook page

A total of three people, including a father and his son, have been reported killed in an terrorist attack in the remote Barathali union bordering Rangamati's Belaichari upazila.

The incident took place in Ward 2 of Barathali union on Tuesday evening, said Atumong Marma, chairman of the local union council.

However, neither the police nor the local administration could confirm the incident.

Atumong said that three families have been living in this remote village.

“They all belong to the Tripura community. Activists of an armed group called ‘Kuki Chin National Front’ open fired on them on Tuesday evening, killing three people–Brishchandra Tripura, Subhash Tripura and his son Dhanara Tripura,” he claimed.

Atumong mentioned that the matter has been reported to law enforcement and local administration. “However, no one went to the spot till 3pm on Wednesday.”

In this regard, Belaichari Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Mizanur Rahman said that he was informed about the matter. “But I am not sure whether the news is authentic. The whole matter has been brought to the notice of Ruma Zone. They are looking into it.”

He added that the area is very remote and one has to travel through Ruma upazila of Bandarban to go there.

Rangamati Additional Superintendent of Police Mahmuda Begum said: “I have heard of casualties. But the truth is not yet confirmed.”

Meanwhile, the Kuki Chin National Front-KNF claimed responsibility for the killings in a statement posted on its social media Facebook page.

It said: "KNF's Special Commando Force Head-Hunter Team has carried out an attack on the JLA's Jaizam Basement Camp by the armed forces of the terrorist JSS. Three members of the JLA were shot dead on the spot.

“However, all the others including the trainee escaped while injured. At that time, when a child was injured in a random shooting by the JLA, KNF commandos immediately treated the child on the spot and left the necessary medicine with his mother. After interrogating the two women in the village at that time, a lot of information was found about the terrorist activities.”
