Bangladesh Army Chief General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed visited the under-construction Khurushkul Ashrayan project at Khurushkul Union in Cox's Bazar on Saturday.
While visiting the site, he observed the project’s construction progress and provided necessary directions to the concerned authorities, said an Inter-Service Public Relations (ISPR) press release.
Principal Staff Officer (PSO) of the Armed Forces Division (AFD) of the Army Lieutenant General Waker-uz-Zaman, Lieutenant General Mohammad Saiful Alam, Chief Consultant General Major General FM Zahid Hossain, and others were also present during the visit.
The chief of army staff said that the Khurushkul Project, which is being constructed under the supervision of the Bangladesh Army, is one of the priority projects of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The main goal of the project is to rehabilitate 3,808 landless families due to climate change effects and the expansion of Cox's Bazar Airport. The project was approved at the Ecnec meeting on November 24 in 2020.
One of the main features of the project is to construct a total of 119 five-storied buildings with pile foundations. In addition, various facilities including places of worship, cyclone shelters, playgrounds, and clean water supply are being constructed under this project.
The project is being implemented by the 34 Engineer Construction Brigade of the Bangladesh Army, reads the press release.
The project is expected to be completed by June 2023.
General Shafiuddin later toured various developmental activities of the Bangladesh Army at Himchhari adjacent to Inani and Marine Drive and inquired about the current progress of the work.
