Eight injured as AL, BNP men clash in Patuakhali

BNP organized a rally in Patuakhali to protest the price hike of daily essentials

At least eight people were injured when BNP men holding a rally clashed with ruling party activists in Patuakhali on Wednesday.

The rally was organized to protest the price hike of daily essentials.

The attack took place around 11am in front of the district BNP office in the city.

A motorcycle was torched and two other bikes belonging to journalists were vandalized during the clash, witnesses said.

They said that BNP rally was approaching the government college when AL men allegedly hurled brick chips on them leading to a chase-counter chase.

District Chhatra Dal leader–Shafiul Bashar Ujjal and Juba Dal leader Masudur Rahman were among the injured.

Police fired teargas to bring the situation under control.

Patuakhali BNP leader Snehangshu Sarkar Kutri alleged that police tried to foil their program earlier in the morning. Later, when they tried to go forward with the rally, AL activists attacked them without provocation.

Moniruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Patuakhali Sadar Police Station, said that additional members of law enforcers were deployed in the area to avert any untoward incident.
