Leaders of the Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ), and Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) have alleged that the present government has financially crippled newspapers in Bangladesh.

BFUJ President Ruhul Amin Gazi made the remark while speaking at a discussion meeting marking the Black Day of journalism at the National Press Club in Dhaka on Sunday.

Both BFUJ and DUJ are BNP-leaning journalists’ forums.

Meanwhile, DUJ faction President Kader Gani Chowdhury urged the nation to unite to bring back the freedom of the press.

Terming the sacking of journalists in pro-BNP Bangla news daily DainikDinkal, he said: “Where it was the duty of Dinkal high-ups to keep journalists who believed in nationalism secure and safe. But the authority relieved them from the job, and pushed their future into uncertainty.”
