How to protect your car in rainy weather

Some of you may love the rainy season, but it is pretty clear that monsoon is not anything less than hell for your car.We have frequently heard it being said that as soon as it rains, people forget how to drive. So other than the grimy mud and water, the traffic congestion becomes unbearable every time it rains.

Regardless of the traffic, another alarming issue that is detrimental to car owners is rust and corrosion. Moisture levels are extreme during monsoon and it brings a horde of problems for the cars - the water and humidity are unfavourable for the electronic gadgets and metal ware. The paint damage to your car by rainwater is also a threat to the longevity of your car exterior. Here are a few suggestions that might help you transform your car and also help you develop good practices.

Protect car paint

There is a misconception that rain water provides us with a free car wash but don’t be fooled by this idea. Rainwater contains acidic elements which can easily eat away your car’s charming paint. You can wash your car immediately after it rains and wipe it dry with a cloth. If you want to avoid this tedious task, there is ceramic paint available in the car shops. It can be applied by both professionals and amateurs and it will provide a protective coat which shields your car from the rain water and other harmful particles. One application should keep you covered for months. Washing and wiping the car regularly is still advisable.

Prevent rust and corrosion

A car is a not a boat but it does serve the purpose of one when it is submerged in heavy flood on the roads. Leakages are quite dangerous for the interior and exterior of the car. Rust is extremely damaging to cars and if it isn’t treated properly on time then there is very little that can be done except for replacing the entire chassis. In order to prevent rust and corrosion, you can go to a workshop and opt for special corrosion treatment to protect the bottom of your car. While you are at that you can also check the wheels alignment.

Inside out inspection

It is crucial to take special care of the brakes. Assessment of the disc brakes for rust or scratches should be good to go for the season. However, for the old-fashioned car with drum brakes, a proper servicing check-up is required as drum brakes tend to absorb more moisture. Check the tread on your tyres to ensure grip and safe driving. Additionally, you might want to deflate your tyres, a PSI (pound per square inch air pressure) or two, to increase the contact patch with the surface of the ground. Windscreen wipers are just as vital as the brakes and tyres, check if you get enough clarity or if the blades need replacement.

Clean corners

The fancy outlook of the car will cease to exist when the stench of the exterior takes over your nose and tears up your eyes. A periodic interior cleansing will keep you far from suffocating in the musty wet carpet stench. Include target areas such as upholstery fabric, unreachable corners, ducts and vents in your list of cleaning too. Spraying household disinfectants into the vents and putting up car freshener help to transform the aroma of the car. Wash the underbody of the car minimum once a fortnight to get rid of the grime from the aftermath of rain.

Last, but not the least

Here are a few tips and tricks that might be helpful all year long. Regularly change oil filter, air filter, and grease every moving part. You do not want to be the person whose car releases dense black smoke. Get your electrical components in the car checked as well. Inspect the condition of the battery, look out for exposed wire bits, leakages or false earthing on the lines. Always carry a box of tissue or cloth to wipe the water droplets or stains on wing mirrors to avoid accidents. Park your car in a ventilated and shaded space and always avoid keeping it under the sun. The direct sunlight is damaging to the car’s exterior and interior.Keep copies of your original documents organized in the car. Don’t hold reasons to get in trouble with the law enforcers.

Vehicle maintenance is not only necessary for the owner but it also helps curb numerous environmental and safety hazards. A decent car can help a driver avert accidents or decrease the chances of an accident occurring in the first place. Many people get tempted to unleash their fictional alter-ego as a car racer on the empty streets during the holidays. Please remember that nothing is more precious than the living beings around us, humans and animals alike. It is recommended that driving responsibly and creating awareness about it should be everyone’s top priority.
