All that 5T gossip
The rumours have made their rounds and now we get down to what to expect from the newest member of the OnePlus family. For most, this might feel like a terrible annoyance, having the fact that the OnePlus 5 has only been out for about three months. The brand is no stranger to producing an updated model within months of the previous release. It is so quick that rumours say the newest smartphone will be launching on November 16, with the actual date of sale of the phone has yet to be revealed.

5T specs

What you might see around the net are these possible specifications for the new OnePlus 5T. But beware, these specs cannot be verified so take them with a pinch of salt. • 6-inch display; 2560x1440-pixel resolution with a 18:9 aspect ratio • 16-megapixel and 20-megapixel dual rear cameras • Snapdragon 835 processor • 6GB/8GB of RAM • 64GB/128GB of storage • 3,450mAh battery

Mark the date

With no official launch date, since we’re still in speculation mode, it is estimated to have a launch date later in the month. Last year’s 3T (yes, they skipped on 4 completely) was released around this time on November 15. Most brands tend to stick to their usual schedule, year-round. It’s safe to say we’ll be expecting the new model near the second half of the month.

The looks

One thing you can definitely count on is the 5T’s standard design. In other words, it’ll definitely look like it belongs in the 2017 aesthetics, and boasts a premium look and build. There were a couple of photos that popped up in the Internet, claiming to be the new 5T. As industry, modern-day Android flagship standards, the phone looks thinner at the top and bottom bezels. It also looks like the fingerprint sensor may be moved elsewhere, like the back of the phone.Swimmingly along with the expectations, there will definitely be a larger screen and sharper images. The specs suggests the phone will be pushing 2K resolution with a 18:9 aspect ratio, which means the screen will seem longer like the Galaxy S8. So an upgraded display and image quality is definitely the obvious takeaway with this new model.

Pretty penny

Just like any other flagship phone, the OnePlus 5T might cost a little more than usual. If you haven’t noticed, price of flagship smartphones have gradually found their way to a higher range. Advance technology and all the other bells and whistles have to be the reason for blame. In the States, the OnePlus 3 is $399, the 3T at $439 and the 5 at $479. The 128GB version of the 5 costs $539. The unverified news suggests the 5T’s starting price might begin around $549. Hey, at least it’s not as bad as the starting price for the iPhone X set to $1,000.

Give and take

Unlike most premium or high-end phones, the OnePlus models have gone without waterproofing and wireless charging. While not all smartphones are open to wireless charging, waterproofing devices are becoming the industry norm. It’s not an impossible task to install both waterproofing and wireless charging to the new models, but the 5T is more likely to lean towards the former. With thinner and somewhat lighter bodies, more phones are getting rid of the headphone jack. Yes, we will continue to suffer. Thanks Apple. Although it’s a possibility that OnePlus may be one of those companies that hold out against the grain and keep their headphone jack in place. Then again, we might have to call that wishful thinking. USB-C makes it difficult to keep the 3.5 jacks.

Out of the box

These are, of course, only rumours. Some of the speculations will come true, while others might turn out to be a pleasant surprise, improving on the already rumoured topics. It’s also a possibility that the company skips the whole 5T idea entirely. It’s possible they’ll skip right to the number six instead. And if it is the release of the 5T, the OnePlus 6 could pop its head out in the early days of 2018; around January or February.
