Over the years, coffee lounges in Dhaka have served as a hub for creative thinkers, office-goers and people looking for a place to relax and indulge in our national pastime – adda. When talking about any of these spots, it is impossible to not mention Cuppa Coffee Lounge, one of the most well-known coffee places in Dhaka, and one of the very first cafés in town.
Cuppa Coffee Lounge offers a variety of the most popular dishes from a wide range of cuisine, including traditional Thai food, burgers, Italian food like spaghetti, Indonesian food like Nasi Goreng, and other snacks like chicken lolly pops, desserts etc. Of course, there is also a line up of traditional coffees like cappuccino, americano, double expresso, latte etc, as well as signature cold coffees that are served with ice cream and chocolate.
The minds behind the matter
Maruf Alam completed an MBA from Assumption University, Bangkok, in 2004. One of the owners of Farmer's market in Gulshan 1, he also wanted to create a space where people can relax and have a good time enjoying music and just eating. Maruf trained the chefs at Cuppa Coffee Lounge himself, but other than cooking, he also loves travelling, playing music and driving.
Borhan Talukder completed a degree in Engineering from Boston university in 2000. After returning home, he missed his coffee hangouts so much that it inspired him to put up a coffee place at one of his properties in Gulshan 2. Other than hanging out at Cuppa Coffee, his hobbies include photography, travelling and listening to music.
Story behind promoting the music scene
Both, Maruf and Borhan wanted to offer a platform to all musicians to play on weekdays and sometimes during weekends, as such musical events could create opportunities for new musicians, and allow music lovers to chill and enjoy the untapped musical talents with a good meal and a cup of coffee. For the past two months, Cuppa Coffee Lounge has been hosting regular musical events that have been highly appreciated by the customers.

They also want to promote the music scene, as both the owners are passionate about music. Their background music is amazing, ranging from classic rock to modern remixes of popular hits, as well as jazz, funk, deep house and more.
Moreover, the lounge's layout has been designed to promote a chilled out, comfortable and very spacious hangout spot, so that anyone can walk in and choose the balcony, coffee corner or spacious main diner. And as the owners wanted to promote the architectural heritage of the country, the lounge walls carry black and white paintings of different heritage sites scattered around Bangladesh.
