It is to no exaggeration that we find ourselves in a time where the possibilities in technology is not only endless, but it exposes us to certain advancements we never knew we needed. Now, unfortunately, I’m not sure the same can be said about a smartphone created by the company Meitu. Then again, more and more smartphone users waste endless hours taking selfie photos and videos on Snapchat and Instagram. Apparently for the tech and social media savvy, if it’s not on social media apps, it never happened.
For those that weren’t too focused on the radar, Meitu was the company behind an app that gave you and your friends’ photos an anime-style filter/makeover. Well, the same company recently announced a new phone that, believe it or not, is all about selfies. The specs, surprisingly, are up to today’s standards. In fact, some may even say it’s impressive. But keep in mind, the specs and little details are only in the introduction stage of the new phone called Meitu T8.
The new T8 possesses a 5.2-inch full HD AMOLED display so you won’t have any quarrels of deep-diving into your detailed selfie photos. This screen is possibly the perfect way to view the phone’s signature feature, which is what they call AI Beautification. The selfie feature is capable of detecting certain details of your face. We’re talking about skin tone, gender and age, then it’ll beautify you accordingly. And yes, you’ll be able to use this feature even in a group photo. It’s so damn powerful it’ll adjust each face in the picture to produce the best after effect, enhancing each face even in real-time videos.
Now, for a powerful 12-megapixel front camera (f1.8) and a rear 21-megapixel camera (f2.2) with autofocus phase detection, there has to be some equally impressive hardware inside. The Meitu T8 houses a deca-core MediaTek Helio X MT6797 chip that clocks at 2.3GHz. The Android 6.0 Marshmallow running phone has a custom MeiOS skin that allows for private albums and private home screens. And with 4GB of RAM, 128GB of storage and a solid 3,580mAh battery, the phone is already available on sale in China. It is yet to be determined how and when it will be available for the rest of the world, but at 3,300 yuan, which is USD $480, this could be a phone to boast about in the months to come.
