Le Méridien Dhaka hosts event on women empowerment

In order to uplift the spirit of women empowerment, Le Méridien Dhaka arranged a daylong event titled ‘Le Méridien Dhaka Presents Colours of Women’ on March 31, in collaboration with ColoursFM101.6. Based on the theme 'Women empowering Women,' 24 emerging artists from all over Bangladesh joined hands to represent 18 struggling women through their art work. Among the artists were Kanak Chapa Chakma, Kuhu Plamondon, Naima Haque, Farah Zeba, Bipasha Hayat and many other phenomenal women figures of the nation. The occasion featured a live art session by renowned artists and also held a panel discussion and fund raising session. H E Rina P Somarno, the Indonesian Ambassador to Bangladesh, graced the ceremony as the esteemed chief guest. The objective of the art session was to financially empower the struggling women, whose cause was helped through financial contributions, primarily made through the sales of the art pieces via auctioning. They showcased incredible amounts of artistic charisma and deeply valued stories of many women in society who are often not recognized for their respective contributions in various walks of life.

The panel discussion highlighted many success stories of women as well as shed light upon pressing social issues that women are faced with daily. The speakers were Tasaffy Hossain, Founder, Bonhishikha-Unlearn Gender, Zareen Mahmud Hussein, Founder, HerStory Foundation, Nooruddin Chowdhury, Country manager, DHL Global Forwarding, Bangladesh and Aftab Mahmud Khurshid, CMO, Bengal Group.  Asna Towfiq, Consultant, United Nations Foundation moderated the panel. Among special guests were Sara Zaker, Executive Vice-Chairperson, Asiatic 3 Sixty, Farah Kabir, Country Director, ActionAid International and Geeteara Safiya Choudhury, Chairman, Colors FM 101.6. When asked about how we can foster an empathetic relationship between women, Sara Zaker responded, “We need to start with young girls and teach them to have a strong network of female friends from early on in life. This is a safety net for later; one that is incomparable to any other relationship and has the potential to raise us above our troubles.” “As a representative of Marriott International, we believe this event will be another signature effort of our commitment towards the global issues surrounding women,” concluded the management of Le Meridian Dhaka.
