This month, Avenue T has come up with a few tips for those men looking to up their skincare game.
This article is for beginners – those who have never washed their faces with anything other than hand soap and never used, much less bought, a moisturizer. Read on to find out how you can maintain a clear, healthy skin, without having to do much.
A dry, squeaky clean face might actually feel good, but it’s actually harmful for the skin. This means that the skin’s protective barrier is disrupted and you’re stripping your skin of its natural oils. Instead, use a facial cleanser that has moisturizing ingredients, and salicylic acid (or even witch hazel) in order to gently control the oil that your skin produces. Use it twice a day, morning and night, or even after you’ve worked out.
Use an eye cream
An eye cream is a simple tool for men which can solve a whole lot of their problems. Dark circles, puffy eye bags, wrinkles and fine lines? An eye cream can help get rid of them all. The skin around our eyes is thinner than that on the rest of our face. So, it needs more concentrated ingredients and intense moisturizing. Use a thin layer of eye cream every time you cleanse (preferably two times a day), and keep the skin around your eyes looking fresh.
Most men don’t like wearing moisturizer because of how it feels on their faces. However, there are more lightweight formulas coming out every day, so it isn’t very difficult for one to find a moisturizer that they can tolerate. Wearing a lightweight moisturizer will keep your skin from feeling dry or tight, and help retain moisture. Key words to look for men while buying a moisturizer are “lotion” or “gel” instead of “cream” if you’re one of those who doesn’t like the feel of a heavy moisturizer on your face.
Apply and reapply sunscreen
Sunscreen is something that you should be wearing everyday. Even if you’re not doing anything else to look after your skin, wearing a sunscreen is a must! Daily sunscreen is the most effective anti-aging product we have. But most guys don’t wear it for the same reason as moisturizer. However, it’s easy to find lightweight sunscreen these days, that have more hydrating ingredients in them.
