Five tips to cool beauty

The long, scorching days of summer are upon us - the moment you step out of the house, you can literally feel the heat burning your skin. Not only does it dehydrate the body, but the sticky weather creates a lot of problems for the skin – tanning, pigmentation, oiliness, and open pores which eventually cause the skin to start aging early.

If you’re looking for skincare tips as the hot summer weather kicks in, don’t sweat it!

Read below for five easy ways to transition your skin care regime into a summer winner.

Tip 1: Don’t forget to double cleanse

A lot of us tend to avoid oil cleansers when our skin gets hot and sweaty, but in reality, the best way to combat oil is with oils. Oil-based cleansers, like the Banila Co Clean It Zero Purity, break down surface impurities and pollutants, and the oils in their formula help to remove excess oils from the skin, leaving your skin clear and ready to receive the rest of your skin care .

Once you’ve oil cleansed, your skin is ready for your water-based cleanser. This step is so important during the summer because your face is producing more sweat than usual and pores can become blocked more easily. Using a cleanser like the Skinfood Tea Tree Bubble Cleansing Foam is great if you want to target acne, since breakouts are more common in sweaty, congested skin. The gentle, tea tree infused bubbles will help to keep your pores clear and healthy.

Tip 2: Swap your cotton masks for hydrogel masks

Hydrogel masks should be your summer go-to since they’re made with a light amount of essence to ensure your skin gets just the right amount of product – no more, no less.

The Manefit Natural Gift Green Tea Pore Care Sheet Mask is a great option for summer because it delivers all the moisture and nutrients you need, while also being infused with green tea leaves, which help to calm your skin and reduce redness and irritation. For an added boost of cool, we recommend putting the mask in the fridge before putting it on to cool the skin and reduce puffiness.

Tip 3: Use a spray-on essence or a spray-on serum

Go for spray-on serums, like the Neogen H2 Dermadeca Serum Spray this summer.

Sprays are ideal because you don’t have to layer on a heavy liquid - you can just spritz and go. They provide just as much moisture and nourishment with half the time and weight. And just like your masks, keeping your spray essence in the fridge is a great way to ensure you’re delivering the coolest blast of goodness possible.

Tip 4: Use a lightweight moisturizer

A moisturizer is the heaviest product in our routine, but when the weather gets warmer, it’s always a good idea to lighten up. If you have oily or combination-oily skin, you should look for gel moisturizers like the Missha Super Aqua Ultra Water-Full Clear Cream, which is perfect for fighting sweat and oil.

If you have dry or combination-dry skin, look for a moisturizer that’s lightweight but also has moisturizing oils. An oil-infused moisturizer like the Erborian Yuza Double Lotion is a great way to manage dry skin because the oils in the formula deliver intense moisture without the weight of heavy creams.

If you have sensitive, dry skin that craves deep moisture, it’s important to look for ingredients that provide nourishing, calming, and hydrating effects, without a lot of weight. Go for the Benton Aloe Propolis Soothing Gel. It is enriched with 80% aloe and propolis, so the moisture it delivers is incredible.

A great option for people with super oily skin is swapping your moisturizer for an emulsion. Emulsions are basically a lighter version of moisturizer that still deliver powerful hydration.

Tip 5: Always, ALWAYS, wear sunscreen

Just like any other time of year, you should be applying sunscreen every day, rain or shine, but it’s important to make sure you’re using the best and strongest sunscreen you can during the summer months.

It’s critical to look for a sunscreen that has SPF 50, as well as PA+++. 50 is one of the highest SPFs and provides the strongest protection, and the PA+++ in your sunscreen will keep dark spots from forming on the skin. The Neogen Day-Light Protection Sun Screen SPF 50/PA +++ is a good option to fight the scorching heat this summer.
