The heads at Out Of The Blue – Design Studio discuss the makings of a fairytale wedding
From gathering ideas, adjusting to each and every change in the budget to taking care of every little detail — a wedding needs an incredible amount of work. Since there’s such a significant number of occasions and different events happening, the most ideal approach to get past this is to bring in a wedding planner particularly suited for weddings.
Out Of The Blue – Design Studio sat down with Avenue t this time, to discuss the makings of a great wedding.
What’s the process that you follow while designing a wedding?
At Out of the Blue – Design Studio, we believe in creating customized designs for our clients. Before we begin our design process we sit with our clients and take a full brief from them. This includes getting an understanding about all the technical and logistical details (number of guests, venue, dining options, time of event) as well as the aesthetic brief that is the kind of themes, colour palettes, design aesthetics/inspirations that are most appealing to our client.
We also try and learn a bit more about our clients so that we can give them designs that will resonate most with their taste. Then we begin the process of venue survey, drawing up layouts, brain storming, sketching and designing. We usually pitch a few themes to our clients.
Once a theme is locked, we go into more detailed 3D drawings of our ideas so that our clients are able to visualize the look of their wedding before we execute the same. Then we submit and lock the estimate and costing of the event. The thing is we actually design and create each and every one of our events/weddings from scratch hence we have a very thorough process we follow to give our clients something that is unique that has not been done before.
What are the things that you cover, in terms of décor?
In terms of décor, we provide anything and everything that is required for your event to stand out from the rest of the events that are taking place. Starting from entrance gate, to stage décor, ceiling décor, head-table set up, gazebo décor, centrepieces, light and sound design etc we are specialized in customizing and creating a look that is unique and will definitely be memorable.
What’s your secret to designing the perfect wedding?
We believe the secret to designing the perfect wedding is to understand well our client's
needs and design aesthetics and then taking the liberty to customize and design a decor for them from scratch. We believe having a certain level of flexibility while designing helps us to come up with out of the box designs which are in line with the aesthetics and taste of our client.
We draw inspiration from anything and everything creative around us - it may be nature, an architectural structure or even a painting, a colour palette or someone's love story. We also do customized designs and we try to add something unique to our concepts or designs. Something that can be locally sourced and utilized in a way that is usually not used in wedding decors.
What are the costs like?
It depends completely on the budget and requirements of our clients.
What’s in this wedding season?
November-December-January is the peak season for weddings and other festivals as well. Outdoor weddings have been the “in-thing” for the last few years here in Bangladesh. A lot of our clients prefer venues that have a very natural or close to nature ambience. We personally love designing and planning for outdoor weddings. Another in thing seems to be planning for day-long wedding events. Be it bridal showers or a holud - a day long function filled with floral patterns, colours and beautiful faces is something that is becoming quite trendy these days.
Clients also seem to prefer garden themed designs, and Carnivalesque designs when it comes to a holud. According to us, the theme colours for wedding events this season are dusty rose and green, lavender and lilac, Tiffany blue and deep red, black, white and gold. Various shades of blue, vintage red and peach are also quite popular these days. Having said that, we have also worked with unconventional colours such as turquoise and other jewel tones.
We think that in the upcoming days, some clients will move away from too gaudy and heavy or over the top designs to cleaner and simpler looks with unique touches and design elements.
Five things a couple must know before they come to you.
- The venue, date and time of the event(s)
- The number of guests
- Specific themes/design elements (along with reference images for our better understanding) which resonate the most with their aesthetic taste
- Special requirements (ramp for wheel-chair users, low height stage, and so on)
- An ideal understanding of the budget they are willing to spend (this really helps us to design the décor accordingly)
