World Radio Day tomorrow

The World Radio Day will be observed in the country and elsewhere across the globe today, to celebrate radio as a medium.

On November 3, 2011, the United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO) in its 36 general conference approved a proposal to celebrate the day on February 13 across the world.

The objective of the day is to raise awareness about the importance of radio, facilitate access to information through radio and enhance networking among broadcasters.

The government, Bangladesh Betar and private radio stations in the country have chalked out elaborate programmes to observe the day through airing special programmes highlighting the day’s, reports UNB.

President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave separate messages highlighting the importance of the day.

Describing radio as the strongest, oldest and biggest mass media, the president hoped that the radio stations in the country would be able to uphold its glorious role through airing programmes as per desired of the listeners by facing various challenges in the modern era.

The prime minister in her message said the use of radio has increased in all developed countries and has been emerged as the oldest, popular and effective medium.
